Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund Independent Review – Fire to Flourish

This report documents and shares the story of the Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund (CCBRF), to reflect on its experience, celebrate its achievements, and to offer the lessons learned to other communities preparing for, or recovering from disasters. These lessons are also relevant to government agencies, philanthropic and not-for-profit organisations who wish to support communities in strengthening their recovery and resilience.
The Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund was established in January 2020, following the bushfires that devastated the NSW east coast. Cobargo’s experiences demonstrate the capacity of participatory granting to support community self-determination, and the power and impact of communities making shared decisions for their collective future. This Independent Review of the CCBRF shares their stories, experiences, achievements and valuable lessons learned.
