Community Engagement for Disaster Risk Reduction

Community Engagement for Disaster Risk Reduction is a University of Melbourne led research project aiming to survey and discuss with communities about their experiences and perceptions of risk. They do this through facilitating and support community connections, including how these engagements shape the actions communities take (and don’t take) to prepare for disasters of all sorts. Their goals are to:
1. Better understand public perceptions of risk
2. Reduce flood risk at the household scale, with contributions to wider flood risk reduction for the community
3. Build mutually beneficial relationships amongst communities, service providers, and researchers
4. Measure risk reduction actions taken as a result of engagements, including potential spillover effects
5. Support and grow community resilience
6. Improve how emergency services and researchers engage with communities for flood and disaster risk reduction
