Over a quarter of Kempsey Shire’s 30,280 population (according to 2021 census) is aged between 0 – 24, demonstrating a significant need for youth voices to be heard.
Their insights can help shape programs, policies, and initiatives that directly impact their lives, ensuring services are relevant and effective for now and the future. Directly involving young people in decision-making also builds leadership skills, encourages community participation, and will help create a future generation that is invested in the well-being of the whole community.
Macleay Youth Rising will use the Resilience Canopy six step model to give a voice to young people, supporting the formation of a Youth Advisory Group. This will provide local youth with a platform to advocate for their needs, influence decision-making, and drive positive change. This project is in coordination with The Resilience Canopy.
