After seeing an image of the projected high tide in 2050, the people of Bude in Cornwall swung into action to adapt to climate change. If nothing is done by 2050, their landmarks like the surf life-saving club, Bude seawater swimming pool, and many cafes businesses and carparks, will all be gone. Bude, rather than waiting for action from a Conservative government accused of reneging on its climate pledge, has thus formed the Bude Climate Partnership to address the threat, winning 2 million pound from the national lottery climate action fund earlier in 2023 to put towards adapting their coastline, and reducing their emissions from tourism of at least 50 businesses by 50%, and helping residents of the town reduce their own carbon emissions by making their homes more energy efficient.
